It is only two weeks until the Australian Energy Storage Conference and Exhibition opens at the uber-cool Australian Technology Park in Sydney. Running from 3 – 4 June 2015, the two day conference and exhibition addresses energy storage solutions at all levels, and features more than fifty experts from all over Australia and the world.
To “sex things up a bit” for conference delegates, there will be a Tesla Model S on display, showcased on stand 405 by Tesla Motors.
If you haven’t seen one of this magnificent cars in the flesh yet, its worth coming just for the experience. Sure, they look cool and yes they exude luxury but to actually behold what cars will almost all look like by the time our kids are all grown up is the really cool bit.
It’s the future, shaped like a car.
The Model S is the world’s first premium sedan built from the ground up as an electric vehicle, engineered to deliver unprecedented range and a thrilling drive experience. With a rigid body structure, nearly 50/50 weight distribution and a remarkably low centre of gravity, the Model S offers the responsiveness and agility expected from the world’s best sports cars while providing the ride quality of a luxury performance sedan.
The Model S is the world’s fastest four-door vehicle ever built. Tesla Motors’ (NASDAQ: TSLA) goal is to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable transport with a full range of increasingly affordable electric cars. California-based Tesla designs and manufactures electric vehicles, as well as EV power train components.
Although I will undoubtedly pale into humble insignificance in the background with my measly 11.4kWh Zero, for those with a taste for dual sport electric motorcycling adventure my bike will be around too. Its actually pretty cool to see two completely different approaches to the same problem – Zero are aiming for cost effective every-day transport with a perfectly decent performance level, if not eye watering. Tesla on the other hand have built a car that is desirable in every aspect; mere mortals endlessly day-dream and try to imagine how they can raise the funds to buy one. Some have even bought lottery tickets with the big T in mind.
Or maybe that’s just me.
On Wednesday the third of June, Hugh Bromley, a research Associate from Bloomberg New Energy Finance will be exploring the most recent data, analysis and projections of energy storage. Hugh is an unassuming young fellow I’ve had the pleasure to meet a few times now and really knows his stuff, so well worth catching. Hughe’s session will cover:
- Australian/global energy storage deployment forecast by application
- Australian end-user energy storage deployment forecast (key market)
- Australian residential and commercial PV deployment forecast (key driver of end-user energy storage)
- Australian large-scale renewable energy deployment forecast (key driver of utility energy storage)
- Lithium-ion battery experience curve
Not only is this event an industry conference but an exhibition of the latest innovations in energy storage. A healthy collection of exhibitors will be showcasing the latest technology and visitors can attend on-the-floor workshops for free. A workshop hosted by GNB Industrial Power, A Division of Exide Technologies, on Clean Energy Storage for Grid Load Levelling will be held on day one of the show. Subash Bhattacharya will be discussing trends in containerised storage for grid level load balancing and the maturity of lead acid batteries to meet such large scale requirements. He will also talk about some successful case studies with emphasis on ROI. The future in terms of storage technology for grid applications will also be covered.
And dont forget the panel debate at 3.50pm on Thursday – this was a really entertaining and thought provoking session last time, punctuated by some great laughs and even some noisy and engaged members of the audience! Its a different way to learn and a barrel of fun watching debaters squirm and think on their feet.
As well as a host of esteemed experts on technology presenting throughout the two days, there are also “Workshop sessions” running which are a chance to really sink your teeth into issues and get involved. I will be running one of these with the aim of sharing a lot of what I’ve learned about storage targetted towards solar installers and retailers. I promise to keep the presentation short and open the floor so we can answer as many questions as possible for you.
The Australian Energy Storage Conference and Exhibition gives attendees the opportunity to connect with others in an engaging and informative manner; whether they are from large utility companies deciding the future energy supply of millions, installers and solar retailers trying to understand the latest technologies or asset managers budgeting for new energy systems.
